Construction of the redevelopment building planned in front of the south exit of JR Ashiya Station reportedly began on September 4!
Quoted from the press release
↑ With 11 floors above ground and two basement levels, it looks set to be quite a tall building for Ashiya. The project is being developed by Tokyu Land Corporation.
The redevelopment building is also expected to be directly connected to JR Ashiya Station by a pedestrian deck!

↑ The construction project notice for the redevelopment building (photo taken 8/16)
The building will be used for “residential units; retail stores; offices; restaurants; clinics (limited to those without inpatient facilities); service businesses (hair salons); stores primarily selling everyday goods (convenience stores); a parking garage; and bicycle parking.”
The previous notice didn’t specifically mention hair salons or convenience stores, so this gives us a slightly clearer picture of what to expect!
The planned construction period is from September 4, 2026 (scheduled) to March 31, 2030 (scheduled).

↑ The planned construction site shortly after work began (9/5). A very large area has been cleared.

↑ The area by the escalator just southeast of the station building is also changing rapidly, with wider walkways and relocated bus stops!
Here’s the location on the map↓
The site covers parts of Narihira-cho, Kamimiyagawa-cho, Funado-cho, and Oharacho in Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
