We stopped by “麹菓堂 wabi,” a cafe where you can enjoy menu items made with koji, which opened on February 20 on the 1st floor of “Space R” along Chaya Sakura-dori!
“麹菓堂 wabi”’s “Carrot Cake” and “Regular Koji Amazake”
“Baked Sweets Set” 1,210 yen (tax included)
For the baked sweet, I chose the “Carrot Cake”. The drink is usually coffee or tea, but since you can choose another drink by paying the difference, I went with the “Regular Koji Amazake” (660 yen tax included as a single item)!
↑ The plating is like a little dessert plate. So delightful!
↑ Look at all that frosting… I had a feeling this would be exactly my kind of thing!
↑ The moist cake has just the right amount of spice, and the rich frosting wraps around it perfectly. So good! Apparently, this carrot cake is made with rice flour. Great news for anyone trying to cut back on gluten!
↑ You can also enjoy it with cream and strawberries on top! I couldn’t stop smiling!
↑ For amazake, they have this “Regular Koji Amazake” and a “Yuzu Koji Amazake” made with homemade yuzu syrup. You can also add milk for an extra 50 yen. It had a simple, comforting flavor.
Inside “麹菓堂 wabi”
↑ Here’s what the inside looks like. You order first at the register, then wait at any seat you like, and pick up your food when it’s ready.
It seems that dogs are welcome both on the terrace and inside, and quite a few people had stopped by for a break during their walk.
↑ The area on the right after entering the shop, which previously sold stationery and other items, had become a small gallery.
