The “temporary waste disposal measures introduced due to a shortage of Ashiya City-designated garbage bags”, which we previously covered on Ashi2, have apparently been extended.

The official Ashiya City website was updated on June 24, 2026, and the temporary measures have now been extended through Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Temporary Rules for Designated Garbage Bags (A Quick Recap)
Only if Ashiya City-designated garbage bags are unavailable, you may put out your garbage in non-designated bags.
- Use a transparent or translucent garbage bag that allows the contents to be seen (5–45 liters only).
- Using a permanent marker, write “可” or “○” on bags containing burnable garbage, and “不” or “×” on bags containing other non-burnable garbage.
- Flimsy bags (such as dry-cleaning bags or roll-type plastic bags provided at supermarkets), opaque bags (black, dark blue, etc.), and designated garbage bags from other municipalities will not be collected.
The sorting rules have not changed, so please separate and put out your garbage as usual. Please also avoid unnecessarily stockpiling designated garbage bags!
In Closing
As designated garbage bags continue to be out of stock at some stores in the city, the temporary measures have been extended. According to a post on the mayor’s Instagram, the manufacturer is continuing to produce and ship the bags as usual, so please don’t stockpile more than you need—just buy the amount you actually require.
