“Genji Firefly Watching by the Ashiya River” Will Be Held Near Kaimori Bridge on June 7 (Sat.)

It looks like the “35th Ashiyagawa Genji Firefly Observation Event” will be held near Kaimori Bridge, close to Hankyu Ashiyagawa Station, from 19:30 on Saturday, June 7〜 *Held even in light rain

↑There was a notice announcing the event. An event information page has also been posted on the official Ashiya City website.

Date and time: Saturday, June 7, 2024. Meet at 19:30. Explanation about Genji fireflies from 19:45, followed by observation from Kaimori Bridge along the upstream sidewalk (participants will not go down to the river)
Meeting place: Southeast of Kaimori Bridge, west side of Yamate Yume Nursery School
Organizer: Ashiyagawa ni Sakana wo Fuyasou Kai Co-organizer: Ashiya City

↑The meeting spot is on the west side (Ashiyagawa side) of “Yamate Yume Nursery School” shown here〜

Here’s the map↓

The address is 6-10 Higashiashiyacho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.

↑After that, it seems participants will observe fireflies along the upstream sidewalk from “Kaimori Bridge,” just northwest of the meeting spot. Since they won’t go down to the river, it should be safe!

↑The view upstream from Kaimori Bridge. It definitely has the kind of atmosphere where fireflies might appear once night falls〜

↑There are several “We Are the Stars of the Ashiyagawa River” signs installed along the Ashiyagawa River, including one near Kaimori Bridge, and “Genji fireflies” are featured on it too! I’d love to see real Genji fireflies〜!

By the way, last year, Genji fireflies were apparently observed around Yamashiya Park from late May to early June!

↑Learning about fireflies while observing real Genji fireflies seems like a great way to become more aware of protecting the nature of the nearby Ashiyagawa River!
