It looks like the “Furyu Odori Ashiya Summer Festival” will be held at Ashiya Municipal Seido Elementary School in Seidocho, near Hanshin Ashiya Station, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16!

Organized by the Ashiya Disaster-Resilient Community Development Council, the event aims to preserve Bon Odori dancing as a traditional custom, encourage interaction among local residents, revitalize the community, and raise awareness of crime prevention and disaster preparedness. Apparently, this will be the festival’s very first year!

In addition to Bon Odori dancing, there will be festival stalls serving yakisoba, cotton candy, fried chicken, candied strawberries, shaved ice, and more, as well as a shooting gallery. Fire engines, police cars, police motorcycles, and Japan Self-Defense Forces vehicles will also be on display as part of the festival’s crime-prevention and disaster-preparedness activities. The stage program is expected to feature danjiri festival music performed by the Nakanomachi, Hamanomachi, and Nishinomachi danjiri groups, along with Ise Ondo and a special show by a professional musical theater training school!

↑ Last month’s “Seido Community School Summer Festival,” held at the same elementary school, was a huge success—and this upcoming festival looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun too! We wonder what songs everyone will dance to during the Bon Odori!
