↑It looks like these were chemical injections to control the red-necked longhorn beetle, carried out over two days on March 11 and 12〜
The “red-necked longhorn beetle” is a designated invasive alien species that mainly damages trees in the rose family, such as cherry trees. When the larvae infest a tree, they apparently eat away the inside and cause it to wither. Scary〜
Here on Chaya Sakura-dori, frass (a mixture of wood shavings and larval droppings) was found in July two years ago, and adult beetles were found last June. To prevent the damage from spreading any further, chemical control is definitely needed!
