Here’s a report on the “Danjiri Parade” held yesterday, October 8, on Ashiya Hondori〜!
↑I arrived at Ashiya Hondori around 9:30. Danjiri floats from each district were already gathering!
↑The “Hamanomachi Danjiri” really stood out with its vivid blue outfits and banners〜
↑The “Seido Danjiri” had just arrived on Hondori too〜
↑At last, danjiri from all six districts in Ashiya gathered on Hondori!
↑Mayor Ryosuke Takashima, who drew attention as the youngest mayor at the time of his election, also came and gave the opening remarks for the parade! And now the parade begins!! Or so we thought…
↑Mayor Takashima swiftly took off his jacket…!?
↑W-wait, is that…!!
↑He put on the happi coat for the “Seido Danjiri”! Which means…!?
↑No way, the mayor is riding on the danjiri〜!!!
↑And then, just like that…
↑It’s spinning around and around〜!!! He was totally into it, chanting “Mawase! Mawase〜!!” along with the carriers and the crowd〜
↑Apparently the mayor stayed on the danjiri all the way until the end of the parade, and afterward he even posed for commemorative photos with residents〜

↑After that, each district’s danjiri showed off its highlights, spinning around and lifting the front wheels〜
↑At the “Yamanomachi Danjiri”…
↑They even scattered gold confetti from the roof of the danjiri! It really added to the festival atmosphere〜
↑Since this was the big highlight for each district, everyone was fired up!
↑The “Uchide Danjiri” also left an impression with its lively, fast-paced festival music!
↑At the lovely pink “Nishinomachi Danjiri,” even the deputy leaders stood up when the front wheels were lifted! I might never have seen the people sitting there stand up before〜
↑After each district finished its showcase, the six districts faced each other at the intersection, three danjiri on each side…
↑Everyone lifted the front wheels all at once, and the crowd went wild! It was the grand finale that wrapped up the parade〜
↑After the parade, each danjiri passed in front of Omasu Park one by one and returned to its own neighborhood! (The Seido Danjiri was seen off from Omasu Park.)

On this day, the “Ashiya Autumn Festival” was also held at Omasu Park and Chaya Park, and many of the people who had come to watch the danjiri parade headed over all at once, making it a huge success〜! We’ll report on the Autumn Festival in a separate article too〜!
