I was invited to the pre-opening of THE BUTTER＆SCONE ASHIYA, a takeout specialty shop for flavored butter and scones, scheduled to open on Friday, August 25 in Oharacho near JR Ashiya Station, and got to try their scones and flavored butter!

↑Moist Scone “Cinnamon (Sugar)” 220 yen (tax included)
The moist scone is the type where you can enjoy that handmade texture: crisp on the outside and moist inside. They cut it in half and made it into a scone sandwich with flavored butter inside! So cute!
The fragrant outside matches the cinnamon flavor beautifully, and the lightly sweet dough goes perfectly with the salty flavored butter. It made me want to enjoy it with a cup of tea.
↑Moist Scone “Gorgonzola & Walnut” 300 yen (tax included)
↑ They don’t just have sweet ones, but savory scones too! The crunchy texture of the walnuts and the bold flavor of Gorgonzola really stand out. Since this flavored butter is salty, it also pairs well with savory scones.
↑Cookie Scone “Caramel Chocolate Chip” 380 yen (tax included)
↑ The cookie scone has a crumbly, crisp texture with plenty of fresh cream mixed in. This one is packed with caramel chocolate chips, and its sweet flavor seems like it would be a hit with kids too.

↑Moist Scone “Strawberry & Strawberry” 280 yen (tax included)
A strawberry-filled scone kneaded with plenty of sweet-and-tart dried strawberries and strawberry flavored tea! It tastes great, of course, and it also looks adorable when made into a scone sandwich!
↑Cookie Scone “Earl Grey & Maple Butter” 360 yen (tax included)
As you can see from the cross section, it’s packed with Earl Grey tea leaves from Sri Lanka! It also contains Canadian maple syrup, giving it a solid sweetness.
↑Cookie Scone “Nuts & Honey Currants” 380 yen (tax included)
A scone where you can enjoy the tartness of tiny currant raisins and the crunchy texture of roasted almonds. This is also a cookie scone, so it’s on the sweeter side compared with the moist type.
↑Moist Scone “Milk Plain” 220 yen (tax included)
This is the most classic, plain scone. It seems like it would be fun to pair with all kinds of flavored butter, as well as jam, confiture, spreads, and more!
↑“Flavored Butter Rich Salt” 500 yen (tax included)
The flavored butter is sold in cups.
↑ Each flavor is made with butter from a different region chosen to match it, plus Italian meringue, creating a butter with a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture! It’s almost like cream!
The “Rich Salt” is a classic butter with just the right amount of saltiness, making it a perfect match for any scone!
Inside “THE BUTTER＆SCONE ASHIYA”
↑ Inside the shop, you’ll find about 15 varieties of scones in three types, along with five kinds of flavored butter. In the back of the shop, they were making the scones by hand!
↑ You can choose from three textures: “Moist Scones,” crisp on the outside and moist inside; “Cookie Scones,” made with plenty of fresh cream; and “Galette Scones,” with a subtle sweetness. (The top row in the photo is the “Moist” type, and the bottom row is the “Cookie” type.)
↑ There are five kinds of flavored butter, including “Rich Salt,” “Double Chocolat,” and “Strawberry.” Made with Italian meringue, they have a fluffy, light, and smooth texture! (The photo shows “Rich Salt.”)
↑ In addition to scones and flavored butter, they also plan to sell breakfast-friendly items such as sliced bread, baguettes, and quiche packed with eggs.
