Ashitsuu reader Marilyn spotted a badger at “Higashi Ashiya No. 2 Children’s Playground” in Higashi Ashiya-cho, Ashiya City, at around 18:16 on August 8!
Here it is↓

↑Those small ears and stocky shape… it definitely looks like a badger!
She also sent us an even clearer video!
↑You can see its face quite clearly here. This is definitely a badger! It came waddling out without seeming scared at all, almost like watching one at a zoo… but as the sign says, this is a park!

Here it is on the map↓
The address is 25 Higashi Ashiya-cho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Nearby are places like Konan Senior and Junior High School, Asahigaoka Elementary School, and Ashiya Shrine, so it seems like an area where children often come to play. Wild animals are different from pets, so even if you spot one, please be careful not to approach or touch it!
Marilyn said about the badger, “I’m outraged by the droppings problem.” It looks stocky and cute, but droppings damage is definitely a problem!
Badgers are protected under the Wildlife Protection and Management Act, so you cannot capture or exterminate them on your own. For problems involving wild animals such as wild boars in the city, the Ashiya City Citizens’ Life Department, Regional Economic Promotion Division (TEL 0797-38-2033) is apparently in charge, so it may be worth contacting them for advice.
Marilyn, thank you very much for the photos, video, and information!!
