I went right away and bought some fruit daifuku from “Kakuozan Fruit Daifuku Benzaiten Ashiya”, which opened on the north side of JR Ashiya Station!
Fruit daifuku from “Kakuozan Fruit Daifuku Benzaiten Ashiya”

Left: “Unshu Mikan” 680 yen (tax included)
Center: “Ripe Pineapple” 480 yen (tax included)
Right: “Strawberry” 480 yen (tax included)

Each daifuku comes with one piece of string! Time to make that beautiful “moe-dan” cross-section!

First up, the mikan! This should definitely be cut sideways…huh? Wait? It’s not cutting very well…?Maybe vertically after all…? Umm… huh?

…Something’s off…Umm… should I try cutting it vertically one more time…?

…I’m sorry…
But the taste! The super juicy Unshu mikan pairs perfectly with the chewy mochi skin and white bean paste! Even if it looks like this because of my terrible cutting, the flavor is totally unaffected!

Regrouping, next is the ripe pineapple!
This time for sure…! This time I’ll get a beautiful cross-section…!!

I-I did it! The cut surface is a little jagged, but I did it!
The pineapple tastes fully ripe and sweet, too! The juice seeps out with every bite. So good!

Last is the strawberry… I can’t mess this one up! Here goes…!

I-I did it!!! This!!! This is what I wanted to do!!! Thank goodness!!!
The strawberry variety that day was “Koi Minori,” which is known for being “sweet, delicious, and very fragrant.” That’s exactly right! My mouth is happy♪
