As the weather gets warmer, if you’re walking along the Ashiya River and feel like taking a quick break in the shade, there’s a nice little gazebo? pavilion? that fits the bill.
There’s just something nice about it. This… what is it, Japanese style? Chinese style? It has a bit of a chinoiserie or Japonisme feel to it too… somehow, it just works.
Apparently, this kind of structure is called a “gazebo” if it’s Western-style and an “azumaya” if it’s Eastern-style, but this one feels hard to pin down as either…
The window design frames the scenery outside beautifully, and just looking out through them feels quietly soothing.
You can watch children playing on the playground equipment… though there aren’t any today.
Looking at it this way, the seating layout feels a bit like the inside of a bus or train.
You could even use it to play pretend train or bus rides. (lol)
It’s not exactly a facility built for some specific purpose, but there’s something generous about having a place where you can just relax for no particular reason. It felt like a very Ashiya-like spot.
