The bank reinforcement work and removal of accumulated sediment currently underway along the Ashiya River is scheduled to be completed on May 25.
We went to take a look at the construction site.

It looked like the work around here was nearly finished.
The riverbed path on the west side (right bank) is closed all day from Narihira Bridge to Ashiyagawa Bridge.
Near Hanshin Ashiya Station, the east side (left bank) is still open to pedestrians, so we saw people out for walks.
As you head north along the river, you start to see more heavy machinery and vehicles.
From the stairs just north of the medical center, the east side (left bank) was also closed to traffic.
A little farther north from there, full-scale construction using heavy machinery is underway.
There were tons of huge sandbags piled up!
They all had numbers written on them, too. I’m not an expert, so I don’t really know what they mean, but it definitely gives the impression that everything is well organized.
The closure on the west side (right bank) was lifted at the stairs just south of Narihira Bridge.
The Ashiya River Improvement Project Is a Model Construction Project with a Full Two-Day Weekend System
Details about the construction are posted on a sign.
It looks like the construction area runs from in front of Luna Hall to Ashiyagawa Bridge.
This construction project is apparently a “model project with a full two-day weekend system.”
It seems the workers are properly taking Saturdays and Sundays off and working on the project in a healthy way.
Once the work is finished, it would be nice to take a relaxing walk along the clean and safe Ashiya River riverbed!
