We received a tip that a giant softshell turtle—the “master” of the pond—lives in Nakanoike Green Space in Iwazonocho, so we went to investigate!
(This information was provided by Edamame. Thank you!)

Fishing is prohibited at Nakanoike Pond…

Oh, could that be it!?

Too bad! It was a red-eared slider!

Looking closely, the pond is full of turtles—there are so many of them! But they were all red-eared sliders, and we couldn’t find the softshell turtle…

Look at that long neck! It certainly has the majestic presence of the pond’s master.

↑ There was also a sign like this, so please never release non-native species such as red-eared sliders—or unwanted pets—into the pond without permission! You’ll make the pond’s master angry!

The address is 6 Iwazonocho, Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
