It looks like the temporary measure in Ashiya City allowing residents to put out garbage in bags other than the city-designated garbage bags will end on Wednesday, September 30. Starting Thursday, October 1, residents will once again be required to use designated garbage bags.
Quoted from the Ashiya City official website
Due to the situation in the Middle East, designated garbage bags became unavailable at stores throughout the city. As a result, a temporary measure allowing residents to use other bags was introduced in June and later extended through the end of September.
Manufacturing and supply are now being maintained, and shortages are improving, so the temporary measure will end as scheduled.
Here are the key points.
- The transition period will run from Thursday, October 1, through Tuesday, October 13. This period is intended only to give residents time to become aware of the change, so designated garbage bags should generally be used
- After the transition period ends, garbage placed in bags other than designated garbage bags will not be collected
- Transparent and semi-transparent bags can still be used for plastic bottles, cans, glass bottles, and recyclable paper
- The city is asking residents not to stockpile bags and to purchase only what they need
The information flyer is also available in English, Easy Japanese, Chinese, and Spanish. For details, visit the Ashiya City official website.
