Here’s our report on the “Starlit Sky Movie Night” held yesterday, August 29, at Miratap Park Ashiya (Ashiya City General Park) in Yokocho, in the Minami-Ashiyahama area!
Scenes from the 20th Starlit Sky Movie Night

The “Starlit Sky Movie Night” is held every year at the athletics field in Miratap Park Ashiya (Ashiya City General Park). This year marked the event’s 20th anniversary!

↑ Near the entrance to the field (in front of the administration and conference room buildings), there was a festival-style archery game for kids, as well as…

↑ Food trucks serving shaved ice, hot dogs, crepes, and more.

↑ There were also food stalls selling baby castella cakes, fried chicken, frankfurters, drinks, and more, along with a charity bazaar!

↑ A screen was set up on the north side of the field, while lots of families spread out picnic blankets on the lawn in front of it and waited for the movie to begin.

↑ Everyone was relaxing on the grass while waiting for the 7:00 p.m. screening, but then…

↑ The clouds began to look rather ominous, and raindrops started falling from the sky…

↑ Just before 7:00 p.m., the rain started coming down quite heavily! The crowd began to stir, wondering if the event would have to be postponed until the next day, but…

↑ Fortunately, it was only a passing shower and cleared up at around 7:15 p.m. The screening began at 7:20 p.m., just a little behind schedule!

↑ “Sumikkogurashi: The Little Wizard in the Blue Moonlight” began without further trouble, and the children were able to enjoy the movie under the stars!
The weather certainly kept everyone on edge, but getting to watch a movie on the grass is a rare and special experience. The event is held every year, so if you couldn’t make it this time, be sure to check it out next year!
