We stopped by 「おでんと肴とお酒の店 花がつお by花菜」, located near JR Ashiya Station along Ekimae-dori, for a set-meal lunch!

“Today’s Set Meal” ¥1,500 (tax included)

The main dish that day was fried horse mackerel!

↑ Amazingly, every set meal comes with six small side dishes! With dishes like okra dressed in sesame sauce, shira-ae (vegetables dressed with tofu), and daikon simmered until it soaks up all that delicious dashi, the selection is healthy and centered around vegetables—such a nice bonus!

↑ It also comes with a salad, so you can feel a little less guilty—and much happier—about ordering something fried.

↑ The miso soup is packed with ingredients like daikon and carrots (though they sank to the bottom in the photo), and the hint of yuzu gives it a refreshing flavor.

↑ The main dish, fried horse mackerel, is perfectly crisp too!

↑ You can choose either sauce or soy sauce to go with it. We went with the sauce this time.

↑ The fried horse mackerel is nice and thick, making for a very satisfying meal!

“Seared Bonito Set Meal” ¥1,500 (tax included)

This set features fresh seared bonito as the main dish.

↑ It comes with a variety of garnishes—including sesame seeds, daikon sprouts, wakame seaweed, shiso, ginger, and green onions—so you can enjoy plenty of different flavor combinations.

↑ Here’s the lunch set-meal menu. In addition to the two dishes featured above, you can also choose fried chicken, mackerel simmered in miso, or salt-grilled mackerel.

↑ As the restaurant’s name suggests, you can enjoy a wide variety of oden here. They also seem to offer some stylish Western-inspired options, such as fruit tomatoes, lettuce, and mushrooms.

↑ This street-level restaurant is on the first floor of a building on the north side of Ekimae-dori. Set meals are served at lunchtime, while in the evening it becomes an izakaya, just as its name suggests.

↑ Incidentally, down the passageway to the left of the restaurant is its sister restaurant, 「焼肉 はなな」. They serve lunch too!
