Right outside the south exit of JR Ashiya Station, it looks like they’re building a bicycle parking lot on the vacant lot next to the station building (south of the platforms).

↑ There was a sign saying “Bicycle parking lot construction in progress.” The construction period is apparently scheduled to run until October 31 this year.

↑ It’s the vacant lot right outside the station where excavators and other heavy machinery have been working for a while.

↑ There was also a sign on the sidewalk in front of the vacant lot saying “around June 23 to around August 22.” Maybe that’s how long the work that seems to extend onto the sidewalk will continue.
Here’s the map↓
The address is around 1-32 Funadocho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
Area around the planned bicycle parking lot

↑ It’s right in front of you after coming down the escalator from the station building, just south of the tracks from the station platforms.

↑ If you go this way (west), you’ll immediately reach the south exit of JR Ashiya Station. Beyond that are places like “Pâtisserie La Gare by Louis Robuchon” and “French Kushiage & Charcoal Grill BEIGNET Ashiya.”

↑ If you go the opposite way (east), you’ll find the Mont et Mer parking lot and bicycle parking area, and farther ahead at the end of the T-intersection is “Ashiya Bebika” and other spots.

↑ Across the street, there’s a bicycle parking lot that is currently open.

Quoted from Ashiya City / JR Ashiya Station South Area Urban Development
↑ In the redevelopment plans for the area around JR Ashiya Station’s south exit, this seems to be the spot marked as a “rotary for general car drop-offs and pick-ups.” So will it become a bicycle parking lot first and then later turn into the rotary? The scenery in front of the station keeps changing more and more with the redevelopment.
