It looks like the shopping mall “Southern Mall Second Street”, located near Shinzaike Station in Nada Ward, Kobe, will be renovated this winter, with new tenants including the discount supermarket “OK”〜

To mark the 20th anniversary of “Southern Mall Second Street,” a full renovation is apparently being carried out.
It is set to reopen after renovation in winter 2025, and in addition to “OK,” it looks like various other new shops will be moving in〜

Various shops inside “Southern Mall Second Street” are holding closing sales
Ahead of the full renovation, it seems many shops inside “Southern Mall Second Street” have already closed or are holding sales before closing.
Tenants such as “Futon no Tsuyuki,” the okonomiyaki restaurant “Dohtonbori,” “Gyomu Super,” and “Vision Megane” have already closed or announced their closure〜 There may be more to come.
“OK” opened its first Hyogo Prefecture store in Nishinomiya this January
The discount supermarket “OK” opened its Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi store near Hankyu Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi Station this January as its second Kansai location and first store in Hyogo Prefecture.
It also seems to be planning stores in places like Amagasaki City, Itami City, and Tarumi Ward in Kobe〜. For now, it looks like there are no plans to open in Ashiya City.

In Closing
Since “OK” doesn’t look likely to open in Ashiya City for now, people on the east side will probably head to the Nishinomiya-Kitaguchi store, while people on the west side may go to “Southern Mall Second Street”〜.
“Southern Mall Second Street” is along the national highway and close to the station, making it easy to reach by both car and train. Once it’s renovated, I have a feeling lots of people from Ashiya will be going there too! I’m also curious about what other new shops will open〜!
