Every March, Co-op Kobe announces “candidate stores for closure” from among “stores that have continued to underperform and have facility-related issues”. If performance does not improve by around fall, roughly six months later, the stores are apparently closed.

The following seven stores have been announced as candidate stores for closure this fiscal year.

  • Co-op Ibaraki Shirakawa (Ibaraki City, Osaka Prefecture)
  • Co-op Uchidehama (Ashiya City)
  • Co-op Hyogo (Hyogo Ward, Kobe City)
  • Co-op Arino (Kita Ward, Kobe City)
  • Co-op Nishi Suzurandai (Kita Ward, Kobe City)
  • Co-op Momoyamadai (Tarumi Ward, Kobe City)
  • Co-op Himeji Tohori (Himeji City)

The address is 9-11 Daito-cho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.

Next Steps for Candidate Stores for Closure

① Notices to co-op members who use the above seven stores (during March)
・Postcards will be mailed to those who used the stores during the six-month period from July to December 2024, and posters will also be displayed at the above stores
・If you spend 500 yen or more including tax at the store listed on the postcard and present the coupon printed on the postcard at the register, you will receive 5 Coopy Points (valid through the end of September)

② Decision on whether to continue or end operations (around fall)
・Based on the status of performance improvement, a decision will be made on whether to continue or end operations, and the result will be announced through in-store notices and other means

Regarding the designation of candidate stores for closure in fiscal 2025 and related initiatives (Co-op Kobe)

When Co-op refers to “members,” it generally means something like regular members.

To summarize the text above, members who received a postcard will get 5 points if they spend 500 yen or more. Based on the results, a decision will be made in the fall on whether the store will continue operating or close.

By the way, there were three candidate stores in fiscal 2024, and two of them were ultimately decided to close. In fiscal 2023, four out of seven candidate stores were closed.

“Co-op Mini Otani” in Otani-cho, Nishinomiya City, which borders Ashiya City, was listed as a candidate store for closure in fiscal 2023, but because there was a prospect of improved performance, it continued operating (avoiding closure).

Hopefully “Co-op Uchidehama” will also improve its performance and avoid closing!
