Kansai TV (Kantele) will air a documentary program about the Ashiya City Waterworks Department during the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake, “Recovery from Zero: Ashiya City Waterworks Department – The Men Who Delivered Water” today, Thursday, January 16, from 12:55 a.m. to 1:55 a.m.

The program was originally first broadcast on March 21, 1995. It reportedly followed Ashiya City Waterworks Department staff over two months as they worked to deliver water to every household in the city after the earthquake cut off the water supply, even while they themselves were disaster victims.
This latest broadcast also appears to include newly added footage from interviews conducted about 30 years later with three staff members who are still with the Waterworks Department today.

Kantele will broadcast earthquake documentary programs for four consecutive nights from January 16 to 19 as part of “30 Years Since the Earthquake: Passing It On”. Each program appears to be based on documentaries produced and aired in the past, with new reporting added to show the current situation.
