Around noon yesterday, July 16, Ashi2 reader Ponta apparently spotted a badger in Yamaashiya-cho!
Here it is↓

Wow, so cute! Small round ears, long black markings around the eyes, and a big black nose… That face definitely looks like a badger.

If a cute face like that stared at you, you’d definitely want to get closer! Even the way it hurried off from behind is adorable…
↓On the map, it seems to be around here.
The address is around 9-18 Yamaashiya-cho, Ashiya City, Hyogo Prefecture.
It seems quite a few badgers live in Ashiya, and Ashiya Tsushin readers have previously sent in sightings from around Higashiashiya-cho, Midorigaoka-cho, and Hirata-cho.
Badgers may look very cute, but some people are apparently having trouble with issues like droppings. They are wild animals, so please don’t try to touch them carelessly or feed them!
By the way, badgers are protected under the Wildlife Protection and Management Act, so you can’t capture or exterminate them on your own. For problems involving wild animals in the city, such as wild boars, the department in charge is apparently Ashiya City’s Civic Life Department, Regional Economic Promotion Section (TEL 0797-38-2033), so if you’re having trouble, it may be worth contacting them for advice.
Ponta, thank you very much for the photos and information!!
