A new LINE OpenChat called “Ashiya Chat” has been launched, where you can casually chat about life in Ashiya, especially around the Chaya Sakura-dori area!
↑Cards like this are being handed out at various locations around the city.
The chat is managed by NPO Frying Pan, an organization active in Ashiya. While the main focus seems to be the Ashiya and Chaya Sakura-dori area (Chayanomachi, Omasucho, Kinmitsucho, Narihira-cho, Miyazukacho, and Kamimiyagawacho), anyone who loves Ashiya is welcome to join, including people from other neighborhoods, cities, or prefectures.
LINE OpenChat is a chat room that anyone can join through LINE. One of its key features is that you can use a different name and profile picture from your regular LINE account. Other participants won’t learn your LINE ID, and your LINE friends won’t know which chats you’ve joined!

↑When you open it in your browser, you’ll be asked whether you want to open it in LINE. Select “Open.”
↑When you open the join page in LINE, you’ll see a screen like this. Tap the green “Join with a new profile” button at the bottom…
↑You can then choose a new profile picture and name specifically for Ashiya Chat! Once you’ve decided, tap “Join” in the upper-right corner, and you’re all set!
↑It’s quick and easy to join, and you can start sharing information about Ashiya right away! Of course, it’s also perfectly fine just to read along.
So far, the chat has featured lively conversations about great food people have enjoyed in Ashiya, local events, and even serious discussions about Ashiya City government. One especially helpful topic was “Where’s the best place to buy sweets as a gift?” So many shops were suggested!
