It seems the closure was announced just a few days beforehand, and a line reportedly formed on the final day. With its nostalgic atmosphere and flavors, this popular diner was beloved by many.
According to its Instagram bio, it was “a Showa-era diner that has been serving Ashiya for 76 years.” It is truly sad to see such a long-established restaurant close…

↑ Inside the display case were handwritten menus, danjiri festival fans and lanterns, and merchandise from the rugby team “Kobelco Kobe Steelers.”

The address is 10-19 Nishiyama-cho, Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture.
What’s Near “Sanei Shokudo”

↑ Head this way (south) to reach the Ashiya Yamate Sun Mall shopping street. The vacant lot at the end of the street is where “Ashiyaken,” a specialty shop for Kobe and Tajima beef, used to be. (It has since relocated to Higashiyama-cho.)

↑ Head the other way (north), and you’ll find places such as the “Kaze Bunko” bookstore.

↑ The building across the street houses the “Lemonju” café and “Yui” chiropractic clinic on the first floor, and the “Konoha no Ouchi” childcare facility on the second floor.
In Closing
It is sad to see the sudden closure of a popular restaurant that had been cherished by local residents for more than 70 years… The nearby Japanese confectionery shop “Ashiya Miraku” also relocated last year, and it feels as though the area around Ashiyagawa Station is gradually undergoing a transformation.
