Here’s our report on the danjiri (traditional festival float) processions held throughout Ashiya yesterday, Saturday, October 7!

↑ This is the “Uchide Danjiri.” We happened to come across it in a residential neighborhood!

↑ It made its way through the neighborhood, sometimes having to reverse down the narrow streets.

↑ This is the “Seido Danjiri” in front of Hankyu Ashiyagawa Station. It was heading back to Omasu Park after undergoing a purification ceremony at Ashiya Shrine.

↑ This is the “Yamanomachi Danjiri.” It came from the Yama-Ashiyacho area and passed in front of Hankyu Ashiyagawa Station…

↑ It then crossed Tsukiwaka Bridge and appeared to be heading toward Matsunouchicho and Oharacho. There’s something wonderful about seeing a traditional Japanese danjiri against the Western-style Palais Elegance building!

↑ Accompanied by the children’s lively chants, along came…

↑ The “Nishinomachi Danjiri”! The steep hill was no match for them. After powering their way up, they turned north toward Hankyu Ashiyagawa Station.
Today, Sunday, October 8, a danjiri parade featuring all six districts in Ashiya is scheduled to begin on Ashiya Hondori at around 10:00 a.m.! I (Fuko) can’t wait to see the danjiri from the districts I didn’t get to encounter yesterday!
