A ceremony commemorating the completion of JR Ashiya Station’s renovation and its 110th anniversary was held yesterday, July 29, so we went to check it out!
↑The exterior of JR Ashiya Station after the renovation was completed. The project was officially finished with the opening of the escalator on the station’s south side!
↑There were already lots of people at the ceremony venue before it even started!
↑After waiting in the crowd for a while, Ashiya Mayor Ryosuke Takashima, who has drawn attention as Japan’s youngest mayor, made his appearance!
↑Not only were there many spectators, but the press and TV cameras were there too, showing just how much attention the event was getting.
↑After greetings from the mayor, who apparently lives near JR Ashiya Station, as well as the stationmaster and others…
↑They cut the ribbon with big smiles!
↑After that, an unveiling ceremony was also held outside the station. This area was packed too!
↑There was also a press scrum with the media.
↑After the ceremony, commemorative items such as fans and clear files were handed out, but they ran out in no time!
↑There was also a temporary “Awajiya” shop inside the station, selling the limited-edition “Ashiya Station 110th Anniversary Rokko Mountain Traverse Bento”! We’ll be posting a food report on this later in “Ashitsu Gourmet.”
↑There are also events such as a “Shopping Campaign” being held to commemorate the station’s 110th anniversary.
Mayor Takashima said that among the renovated areas of JR Ashiya Station, he was especially happy that the “restrooms” had become so clean! Restrooms really are important, aren’t they?
JR Ashiya Station is now cleaner and more convenient, and we’ll definitely want to keep using it often!
