We found a very unusual soft-serve ice cream at “Kanetoku Ashiya Kobo,” a delicacy specialty shop near JR Ashiya Station, so we gave it a try!
Kanetoku Ashiya Kobo’s “Crystal Jelly Soft Serve”

“Crystal Jelly Soft Serve” 300 yen (tax included)

Soft-serve ice cream topped with colorful, sparkling, cute jelly! So photogenic!
By the way, what do you think this jelly is made from…?
Believe it or not, it’s jellyfish!!

Even though it’s jellyfish, it isn’t salty or sour. It’s jellyfish soaked in sweet syrup.
It has an interesting crunchy texture, and surprisingly, it doesn’t feel out of place at all when eaten together with the rich, milky soft serve!
Kanetoku Ashiya Kobo’s Menu

There are three kinds of soft serve: the classic vanilla flavor, “Puchi Puchi Tobikko” with syrup-soaked flying fish roe, and the new “Crystal Jelly” with sweet jellyfish.

Since it’s originally a delicacy specialty shop, they carry lots of perfect snack items to enjoy with drinks, such as salted squid, octopus with wasabi, jellyfish sea urchin, salmon roe, and scallops!

They also sell ikanago no kugini (simmered sand lance) and their “Sea Urchin Pasta Sauce,” which apparently sold 1,000 units in 10 months!
