We picked up some classic and new fresh wagashi from wagashi shop “上 (Sho)”, which opened on November 5 in Chayanomachi along the Naruo-Mikage Line!
Fresh Wagashi from “上”

From left: “Kuri Chakin” 410 yen, “Shizuku” 518 yen, and “Seishinmaru” 540 yen (all prices include tax)

↑ The autumn-only “Kuri Chakin” is apparently made with just chestnuts and a little sugar!

↑ It’s the kind of sweet you savor slowly as the natural chestnut flavor melts in your mouth.

↑ “Shizuku” is a beautiful-looking sweet, with a water droplet-like jelly sitting on top of mochi!

↑ Inside the mochi is white bean paste! This “Shizuku” is apparently made using pure seawater collected from deep under the sea.

↑ “Seishinmaru” is apparently also sold as a standard item at the main shop, “餅匠しづく.”

↑ This sweet is made with “honey,” “black sesame,” and “sprouted Job’s tears,” ingredients said to have been eaten by the Buddha to sustain himself in place of meals while undergoing ascetic training toward enlightenment. Inside the mochi and black sesame paste was cream.
Every sweet had a gentle flavor that wasn’t overly sweet, just as the shop’s concept describes: “sweets for days of kegare,” meant to be eaten when you’re feeling unwell or sad. They were the kind of treats you can enjoy slowly.
Shop Information for “上”

↑ The shop opened on the first floor of a white-walled building at the intersection of the Naruo-Mikage Line and Sanpachi-dori. It’s apparently a new shop from “餅匠しづく,” which has locations in Kishiwada and Shinmachi, Osaka.

↑ The sweets are displayed on a table that looks almost like raised layers of earth.

↑ Assortments of fresh wagashi in paulownia boxes were also available.

↑ In addition to fresh wagashi, they also sell longer-lasting sweets such as sugar confections and monaka.
