While passing by the flower shop “花鏡園” along National Route 2, I spotted that they were selling roasted sweet potatoes, so I immediately got one to go!
Roasted Sweet Potatoes from “花鏡園”
“Roasted Sweet Potato Naruto Kintoki” 300 yen (tax included)
I got one freshly baked from inside the jar!
When I split it open, the inside looked incredibly moist right away!
Naruto Kintoki sweet potatoes are usually considered more of the “fluffy” type, but this one was so soft it almost leaned toward the “creamy and sticky” side!
When I tried it, it was really moist and tender! But it wasn’t as melty as honey-like varieties such as Annou-imo, and it still had that proper sweet potato texture, which was exactly my kind of thing!
It had a good sweetness without being too heavy, and I felt it was a really well-balanced roasted sweet potato! I definitely want to get this again!

↑ This is a flower shop specializing in potted plants, located along National Route 2 around Maeda-cho, across from “Yamato Ramen Koundo Ashiya.”
↑ When I happened to pass by, they had a sign out for “jar-roasted sweet potatoes” like this!
They used to roast sweet potatoes every day during winter, but had paused for a while during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apparently, this was their first roasted sweet potato business day in a long time! Lucky me!
↑ On this day, they had three kinds of sweet potatoes: “Beni Haruka,” “Silk Sweet,” and “Naruto Kintoki”! They were all priced at 300 yen (tax included). So cheap!

↑ This is what it looks like inside the jar! There was still heat left, and the sweet potatoes were piping hot!
↑ They brought out several sweet potatoes for me, and they all looked so good I couldn’t choose!
In the end, I went with the shop’s recommendation, and it was absolutely the right choice!
Roasted sweet potatoes are sold only during the winter season, so if you pass by the shop in winter, be sure to check whether the roasted sweet potato sign is out!
