Published once a month, Ashiya City’s public newsletter “Koho Ashiya” features a section called “Ashiya School Lunch Recipes.”

Ashiya City’s school lunch recipes are apparently so tasty that they even made a movie called “Ashiya no Kyushoku”, so I decided to actually try making one!
I tried making Ashiya school lunch “Milk Pudding.”
First, measure out 45g of sugar…
Then mix in 5g of agar (a plant-based jelly powder).
Add it little by little to 400g of milk warmed to 85℃, stirring so it doesn’t clump. Once everything has dissolved…
Pour it into a container while straining it through a tea strainer…
(…Ah… it clogged…)
The tea strainer got clogged, so I had to scramble and bring out another sieve, but I somehow managed to pour it into the containers!
Next is the blueberry sauce! So this is what 45g of frozen blueberries looks like. Less than I expected.
Heat them together with 15g of sugar…
There’s so little liquid! Is this going to be okay…?
But then the blueberries gradually released their juices, and it turned nicely sauce-like!
Add lemon juice too, and the blueberry sauce is done!
Once the pudding and sauce have cooled a bit, chill them in the fridge…
“Ashiya School Lunch Milk Pudding” is complete!
It set with a nice jiggly texture.
The container is a cup from the “hiyashi ame” I bought before at Ikari Supermarket.
The flavor is sweet and melts in your mouth! It’s perfect as a snack for kids!
If making it for adults, it might be nice to use a little less sugar or add some liqueur.
