“Watch Out for Pedestrians” Utility Pole Banners Featuring “The Four Ashiya Sisters” [Ashiya Photo]

We found a utility pole banner featuring Tae, the youngest sister from “The Tale of the Four Ashiya Sisters,” the mascot characters of the Ashiya City Society of Commerce and Industry.

“The Tale of the Four Ashiya Sisters” is a manga created in 2010 by the Ashiya City Society of Commerce and Industry and Kobe Design University to revitalize the local community and attract younger visitors. The characters are said to be based on the four Makioka sisters from Jun’ichirō Tanizaki’s novel “The Makioka Sisters,” which is set in Ashiya.

From left: Tsuru, the eldest sister; Yuki, the third sister; Tae, the youngest sister; and Sachi, the second sister.

In the story, Tae, the youngest sister, seems to be a cheerful, free-spirited character who loves events.

We looked around but couldn’t find another one anywhere nearby (´;ω;`) It seems this utility pole banner is quite a rare find!
